Behind the Scenes:
What It’s Really Like to Work With a Designer

Hiring an interior designer can feel a little daunting at first.

You might wonder: Will they understand my style? Will I still get a say in how everything looks? Is my project even big enough? These questions are completely normal, especially if you’ve never worked with a designer before.

But here’s the truth: the right designer doesn’t take over. They partner with you to bring your vision to life in a way that’s elevated, seamless, and often better than you imagined.

Let me take you behind the scenes of what it’s really like to work with a designer from our first conversation to the final reveal.

Step 1:
Discovery & Connection

Every project begins with a chat. This could be a 15-minute design call or a full in-home consultation. We talk about your goals, your home, how you live, and what’s working or not. This is where we begin to uncover your vision, even if you don’t yet know what it looks like.

By the end of this stage, we both get a sense of whether we’re a good fit. If we are, we move forward with a tailored proposal.

Step 2:
Design Planning & Concept Development

Once the proposal is accepted, the creative process begins. I create a moodboard that reflects the overall vision for your home, and I begin developing ideas for furniture, finishes, colours, and layout.

This phase is collaborative. You’ll have space to share feedback and ask questions, and I’ll guide you with professional insight to ensure the design feels cohesive, functional, and elevated.

Step 3:
Procurement & Project Coordination

Once the design direction is finalised, we move into the practical side, ordering furnishings, booking trades, scheduling deliveries, and keeping everything on track. I handle all the moving parts, so you can stay focused on your life without the overwhelm.

You’ll always know what’s happening (and when) through regular updates and clear communication.

Step 4:
Styling & The Final Reveal

This is where the magic happens. Once everything arrives and is ready to install, I bring your home together in a single day (or over a few days depending on the project). The artwork is hung, cushions are fluffed, throws are layered, and every detail is placed with care.

Seeing the look on my clients’ faces when they walk into their transformed home is the best part of what I do.

The process of working with a designer should feel exciting, inspiring, and easy. You don’t have to know exactly what you want, you just have to be open to the possibilities.

If you’ve been thinking about working with a designer but weren’t sure what to expect, I hope this gives you clarity and confidence. When you’re ready, I’d love to hear your story and help bring your home to life.
